Laserbox - Hermetic Encapsulation of Photovoltaics

Unique Selling Propositions

Concept and Design

Developed at the Faculty Engineering of University of Porto, this method is efficiently used to encapsulate Perovskite Solar Cells and Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells in-between two glass substrates, protecting the devices from leakage and harm from moisture or air. The hermeticity complies with the Mil-Std-883H, delivering unprecedent long-term stability, which is critical for the industrialization of second and third generation photovoltaic cells.

Standard Specifications

  • solo devices up to 30 cm x 30 cm
  • multiple devices (up to 8) of smaller areas
  • modules (up to 8 strips)

When using one laser, sealing will be achieved down to 120 ºC; if we employ two lasers, the sealing can be done down to 65 ºC.

Dry Air, Nitrogen, Argon, or others

Two cameras, one a PTZ camera with high resolution and optical zoom to record sealing videos, and a 2D Machine Vision camera from SICK that enables pattern recognition.
